This great peak is situated in the Lost River Range located in the Challis National Forest. My friend Morgan and I drove down from Missoula and camped at the trailhead Friday night. Turned out fine: relatively fast climb (4:40 RT) with perfect weather and just 2 other parties of 2. 9-18. Loved this climb, steep and tough but worth it! Definitely not as hard as everyone talks it up.
We had already climbed with ice axes and crampons on a successful summit up the Emmons Glacier on Rainier. Great views from the summit. Highs 25 to 35. I think half the weight we carried was water. Spent a fantastic day climbing Mt. Winds increasing (light winds from the NW on Mon night, strong winds from the NW by Wed night). Partly sunny with a chance of snow.
